Last day of 2009
December 31, 2009 1 Comment
Happy New Year for tomorrow (do not worry, I will definitely be here tomorrow to say so). As one of the last posts of 2009, I’d like to basically sum up this blog and generally the past year rapidfire vomit style.
I’ve had this blog for barely half a year, but it has been super FUN – regardless of what other people may think. Half the time I am really blogging to myself, but the joyful thing about blogging is that despite having no comments, or the occasional surprise comment, in the end of the day I’ve provided information to people every day, according to whatever their information needs are.
This is my 272th post within the short period I’ve been blogging (well, actually, this would probably be more like my 2000th post since I have kept several blogs in the past 5 years or so) on wordpress, and I hope to continue blogging frequently. I’ll still continue to target the search terms people use to land on my blog. I just usually feel bad if someone searches for something, and end up here and just end up not getting the information they were looking for. So I’ll try to at least have the answer to a search term somewhere embedded in my blog posts.
Speaking of which, even though I am talking to myself 80% of the time, this month’s stats were quite terrifying.

In the month of November I received 803 views, which is quite alright – phenomenal in comparison to what, 100 views in October. This month I got close to 3440 views (and don’t forget, today isn’t over yet). That’s on average more than 100 views per day. \o/ It’s mostly thanks to Myer Stocktake, but either way, I’m happy that at least maybe 80 people didn’t go to their local Myer on Boxing Day, because only 4 stores in NSW were actually open for the public holiday.
Anyway, enough of statistics and mathematical analysis of the blog. That’s not what I’m here for.

In terms of life, I hope that for next year I actually knock some of my resolutions down – and stick with them. I knocked off one important one, and that was getting my Ps. Some may or may not know but I absolutely despise driving. Up until my driving lessons, I just hated being on the roads and being honked at and feeling sad from it. After I attended my lessons however, I never got honked at, and from what my instructor told me, the people who actually honked at me did it for illegal/ wrong reasons. For instance, once I entered a roundabout and I was honked at for going a bit too slow (well what do you expect?), when in fact that car should have given way to me because I entered the roundabout first. It’s idiots like those who disobey road rules which really annoyed me. Idiotic bystanders who tell you not to honk at cyclists – honestly, the guy didn’t know how to ride a bike, I’m a learner, and going downhill with a Mercedes Benz behind me – either keep to a side so I can overtake you, go faster so I don’t need to slow down, or simply get off the road – the guy was riding in a ZIG ZAG in the centre of the road. I couldn’t overtake him either because there is oncoming traffic that may turn in and not see me. Ughhhhhhhh idiots.
Oh and another time, I slowed down to turn left (like any normal person) but there was a pedestrian crossing so I stopped. Car behind me went nuts. WTF?
Thankfully however, I no longer feel queasy at the thought of driving, because I know the rules, and if I make a mistake, fair enough, but some people are just idiots. And they are generally idiots because they look at the L plate and judge you from that. Dude, learners are people too – some learners are very good drivers, but just happen to not want to upgrade their licence. My mum was like “I will sit in the passenger seat when you drive”, but I was like, “if that was okay, then I could stay on my Ls forever – it’s cheaper to renew too. The reason for getting Ps is to actually be able to drive on your own.” So, think about it. If you think you don’t need to drive on your own, and you will always be supervised, you could actually stay on your Ls forever.
But anyway, I got my Ps, and I’m happy.

More life. Just before I started this blog I went through a traumatic stage of everything going wrong. Design for first semester was extremely stressful and there was a trip in communication and turned things extremely sour despite the fact I was going through a hard time. I pretended that I forgot about things, but actually, I really didn’t need that extra bit of stress in my life. I turned single – he was actually the only person I could turn to when I felt down or needed to vent about something. Suddenly losing that really hit me quite hard. I spent an entire week very depressed. I broke down in class. My friends could actually tell that I was totally out of it and my mind was somewhere else. Thankfully I had my friends (and impulsive shopping) giving me their support, and things returned almost normal quite soon (though I admit, I’m still not quite there yet even now). Not long after, one of my family members became very ill.
If I just had to wish for the simple things for 2010, I just hope that I can either (1) cope on my own, well OR (2) manage to find someone who can listen and be there for me (and willingly does so because it’s a soulmate kind of relationship, if you know what I mean), (3) hope everyone in my family is healthy and well, (4) have a good academic year without any major mishaps.
Not really asking for much here. I just don’t want 2010 to be a horrible year like 2009 has been. 2009 really has been a drastic fall from grace, and slowly crawling back up. I was surprised that my marks were better in the second half than in the first half - maybe I was just lucky and learned how to ignore.
But from one of my favourite songs, “Gaining through losing” by Hirai Ken, though I lost a lot of things, I’ve gained plenty in return – I met a bunch of really awesome people, and I know for sure, my life has definitely improved.

Bleh, the tone of this post has turned so heavy!
Nails for New Year’s. I know I was meant to keep the white nail thing, but as I mentioned yesterday, the cleaning… *sigh* anyway, the polish chipped and having your nails and hands damp for about 5 hours means significantly dry skin and weaker nails. It was about time to cut them anyway (it has been a long time since I have been abole to touch anything with my fingertips
) and the great thing about nail art is that it takes up a lot of time. So I rewatched HYD for like the 4th time in my life while I did my nails. The series is such an easy watch without any major brain stabbage. <3

Pink gradient nails with Konad stamps that look like fireworks (if you squint hard and use your imagination)! Trust me, looks slightly better IRL because I didn’t touch the contrast of the photo. And look! The background is actually not cluttered for once, thanks to my cleaning day.
I used the same pink pearl base but I gradient’ed it with a coral Revlon polish using a sponge tip applicator and then using more of the base over the coral to produce an “airbrushed” effect. My left hand is much neater (as above) in comparison to my right hand, because I went into the shower and messed up my whole right hand. Had to redo them again but had very little patience. Actually, my right hand has messy gradients but really nice stampage on them OTLL But from a distance, it doesn’t look too bad. These nails for some reason look quite natural and remind me of strawberries
I also followed the tip Suzie kindly posted on my previous Konad blog and it worked a charm! Just a thin layer of the top coat (and quickly, as the box says) will seal the stamp. Followed it up with another top coat layer when that dried – and after that, you can pack on as much top coat or glitter you want without the stamp design dissolving. Thanks!
And yes, I am well aware that I own an outdated phone. Well, not too outdated… for certain reasons
I won’t state here. But I hate this phone. It’s really crap, until I did the software update thing. Thankfully, I am going to get a new phone in Feb 2010 \o/ But I won’t put my hopes too high. The “free” phones they offer on a contract generally really suck – in fact, I’ve been paying $10 a month handset fee on this crap. Ugh. Anyway, I took a photo holding my phone because I needed to take a photo of the rose mirror accessory. So neat! As you can tell, it’s definitely not the Anna Sui rose (if it was, I’d be facepalming) – but roses are actually my favourite flower anyway, so whatever.
After successfully doing this nail design, I’m tempted to buy a load of templates! Unfortunately that also means buying more of that “Konad special nail polish”. That stuff indeed IS much thicker than usual polish. I tried stamping using other polish, and it works, but it’s too faint since the polish was sheer to begin with. I have 2 polishes that may or may not work (I stamped them successfully and they seemed to work) – (1) Dior nail polish – I own one in copper, and it seems alright. If not, it’s perfect for the metal scratchy look so whatever (2) Missha The Style nail polish – I tried it in the pastel purple I bought a few months ago, and it seems to stamp okay. As you know the colour itself isn’t so vibrant since it’s a pastel, but it’s thick enough to actually stamp through as a solid colour rather than something sheer.
FUN!

I know I said I was meant to be going out today, but the weather is really crummy. My body aches from scrubbing (you try staying in a 1.5mx1.5m confined shower cubicle for several hours and scrubbing all 4 vertical surfaces and floor). Maybe I’ll head out on the 2nd. Then I’ll buy my bus fares, too >:3

What to expect in 2010?
Bigger and better blogs. More photographs taken by me (including awesome photoshopped stuff), and more nail art definitely for sure, since this nail stamping thing is really fun – but only during the holidays though (and first few weeks of semester) - I don’t have 2 hours each week to dedicate just to nails (it took me 2 hours to do the design above, believe it or not – it was mostly waiting for stuff to dry, and redoing the ones I accidentally touched). More drawings and scannage. More drama bickering. Possibly more celebrity manpron and real life eye candy. YUS!
Oh, and also, I hope to also design more logos and stuff
Obviously I’m not a graphics design student, but I like designing anything that is designable on a computer. So yay – more logos and all! And if not logos, just stuff in general >:3
So hope you all enjoyed this year – if you didn’t (for good reason), hope that we can look forward to the new year together! Gonna make the time worthwhile, so might as well live it up! (and I’d drink the soju too – but let me at least eat something beforehand, okay? LOL – I actually saved my stomach that day
)
Seize the moment and make the most of it
~Misa
