Hello all, I never thought that I would have enough time to actually sit in my hotel room and blog because I expected myself to go out constantly every day. Basically I overestimated the amount of time I actually needed, which is actually not all that much. I have over 2 ish days till I go back home, and I kind of wished that there was just one more day instead. The past two days have been really boring since my friends need to work. It meant trips to the supermarket for me, and wanting to skip meals since eating alone is kinda sad.
Hong Kong itself is actually quite a lonely city; there are lots of people who eat, shop or travel alone. I admit it’s the same in Sydney, but I guess since family and friends make it so much better. This place is quite alien to me. I know the language and all but there is still that barrier- I never grew up here, I grew up in Sydney – raised and born there. My first language is English; I read Chinese slowly and pronounce things wrong. Well, just a bit more and I can go home.
The weather here is ridiculous, UV levels are 11-12 (meaning extremely high) and temperatures hover around the 30 degree mark. Humidity is usually 70-90 something percent, so when you walk outside you are drenched in either water vapour or sweat – you cannot tell which is which, nor does it even matter. The weather means you need some pretty badass makeup that does not melt off your face, and you want to take a shower, always.
Anyway the point of this post was not to go into too much detail about my trip, I will do that when I get back. For now, I am still having fun. Hong Kong is a really beautiful and captivating city – I always felt that way. This time, I am staying at a hotel which makes my experience a million times better (unlimited free bottled water ftw!), only I am travelling alone, which kinda sucks. But I got to see my friends I thought I would not be able to see again, and there are a lot of awesome things here that are ridiculously cheap.
The turning point in my trip was Sunday, when I went to Macau… I spent most if my money the day before (can you believe it… After just 3 days) so I was stressed and unhappy. I was doing stupid things like calculating how much money I could spend each day, and what I could or could not buy. It was so so so very stupid. Luckily for me I did bring money to exchange… And then things went back to normal. Even so, I feel guilty for spending so much money and not knowing where it went. Things are not as cheap as you would expect – that was a bit of a shock. I will go into detail later… But yes, some things really are not cheap lol, namely clothes and shoes. I had no idea they would be so expensive; cheaper than Sydney in a way, but really not worth the price D:
I think the problem with going on a holiday is that you are pressed for time not to buy the things that you want to wear, but more things that you NEED to wear or else you do not have a change of clothes for later. Which reminds me I should buy something for the next two days…. fuuuuuuuuu.
I would like to add that I am talking about Hong Kong shopping from the perspective of someone who is shopping at boutiques or shopping centres. If I shopped entirely at boutiques I would be broke within minutes. You might wonder why I do not shop at small shops or stalls… it is because they can be quite expensive :/ they are like the same price as upper boutiques for no reason. I am probably hanging around the wrong area to shop, but I feel safer shopping at large chain stores with fixed retail prices rather than small shops and getting ripped off for something that is not particularly well made. To give a good example, there are many boutique stores selling clothes around $500 hkd which is pretty damn expensive ($63 aud or usd)… If I add another $300 hkd ($35) I can get something with a fancy European label. Sooooo yeah. Millie’s shoes retail for about $1000hkd, yet I picked up a pair of Miu Miu shoes for just $1400. To be fair I had to travel to an outlet to get them and they were 50% off with an extra 30% off, but at least I won’t feel like I spent my money in a way which was not very wise.
Do not shop at 7/11 unless you are in a hurry; supermarkets can be 25-35% cheaper! Cafes are the most expensive to eat at- like Starbucks, I don’t mean the HK style cafes. I learned the hard way. Either way, be smart – that’s all.
My next blog post will come on Sunday afternoon if I can still keep my eyes open after hopping off the plane. It will be titled “a noob’s guide to Hong Kong, for noobs”. Stay tuned!
Going to keep this short because it was a fairly boring last day, almost no photos, and not much to talk about.
Day 3 was probably the most boring day because for breakfast we ate the remainder of food we bought from the supermarket (pears… and tomatoes to be exact) so we didn’t eat out. We also were packing like mad to get everything into our bags since check out was fairly early (I think it was 10am from memory). The staff at Causeway 353 were really quite good. They stored our bags until 3pm, so we had plenty of time to have lunch and do shopping.
I probably mentioned it before, but our hotel was really close to literally everything, so we just needed to head to the above street to visit Myer and David Jones (my brain has died on me… I forgot the name of the street… I think it’s Russell but I don’t want to embarrass myself. I guess I already did.) LOL WUT WAS I THINKING. Bourke St -_- We stayed on Little Bourke… EURGH.
Well anyway, it’s very similar to Pitt Street Westfield in the respect that it looks similar with benches and stuff. It’s a really wide street, there’s Myer, David Jones and a bunch of other shops and mini shopping malls along the stretch – only difference is that trams run down the centre of it every now and then
We went to Myer first where I managed to find something for my mum… they had an extra 30% off red ticketed items, so that was a really good deal. I realised that most of the awesome deals were at David Jones. I thought that I was in luck because I picked up a simple pair of black flats from Thurley for about $60 bucks… it was down from about $170 to $80… and then there was an extra 20% off dicounted items… so I was amazed! In fact, shortly afterwards I picked up a pair of Juicy Couture flip flips for a grand total of $18.75. $18.75. I freaking paid $75 for my pair D: 75% off! WTF. And then I picked up a Fendi handbag downstars for $125 – absolutely RIDICULOUS, but I was super happy! I did pick up some clothes as well and I ended up having to throw away my Thurley shoebox to get everything to fit into my luggage bags…
I found that Melbourne generally has better deals that have NOT been snatched away by people so there are some great deals available, with a larger range of sizes available. The people here in Sydney are too fast!
My boss and manager let us nick their Melbourne entertainment coupons so we kind of wanted to use them… one of the coupons was a buy one get one free bubble tea voucher… in Melbourne they apparently do have Chatime and Easyway… but we didn’t see any. The coupon was for Bubble Cup, which is a similar franchise selling similar products, only named a funny name. We literally found its store via the address printed on the back of the coupon… we almost missed it but I remembered seeing it the last time I went to Melbourne so I was like “I’m sure it’s in this shopping centre…”
Upon walking to the other end, there it was, on the Chinatown side.
Yes, my friend took a photo LOL.
They were looking at us strangely because we were standing in front of the store looking like utter NOOBS who haven’t got a clue what pearl milk tea it. PLZ, we have LOTS of that here… we just weren’t sure because we weren’t particularly overwhelmed with their menu. Our conversation was like:
Me: So what did you want to drink?
Her: Hmmm I think I’ll take……. how about you?
Me: Errr yeah maybe ……….
Me: Erm…. we should probably order because they really expect us to order… we’ve been gawking at them for about 2 minutes now.
Her: Okay, let’s do it.
Me: Okay, what size?
Her: Just a regular will do.
Me: Okay….. but this coupon is for a purchase of a LARGE cup…
Me: ….
Her: ….
Me: ….did you still want to have it?
Her: Not really… how about you?
Me: ….yeah, me neither.
Her: Let’s go >_>
Order lady: *WTF*
Seriously, we walked off after standing like nuts LOL. We kinda felt bad for using a freaking coupon and we really had too much to drink *flashback: 4L of water we couldn’t finish plus Ribena*.
We had lunch at some random Japanese restaurant… it was run by Chinese people… the food was meh in my opinion. My friend ordered a chicken katsu curry rice whilst I got a sushi bento… the sushi was just salty and well, not really filling or tasty to be honest. Really bad compared to the sushi here. The food came fairly quickly and they had se ating upstairs as well as outside… anyone who decided to eat outside really didn’t make a good decision. Melbourne streets LOOK cleaner than the streets here in Sydney, because they have street sweepers regularly…. and I watched as a street sweeper zoom past… it literally left behind a cloud of YELLOW dust… imagine that in your food >_> But yeah… the streets are actually dirtier in Melbourne… I’ve never seen my shoes SO dirty. My shoes never got that dirty here in Sydney :S
So this was apparently yummy. Portion was huge. Also, it was cheap for like under $10
This was awful. And it was not cheap.
Anyway, we picked up our bags…. crammed everything into them that we bought from the morning, and then trammed it to Southern Cross. Carrying our luggage about 200m to the damn Skybus terminal was freaking torture… bags were so heavy We got there in the end of course… there was a supposed dely due to roadworks… but we got to the airport within half an hour.
After drinking the rest of our water and Ribena we had in our bags, we went to the toilet and checked in (lolol funny sequence). We weighed in way under than the 20kg we bought… we only weighed about 12kg each O_O Then we waited for the gates to open. Watched a guy lose really badly at Daytona. Beginner level.
Anyway, we sat at the back of what I call a fairly full flight. I had to window seat to myself, but there was no view because it was foggy outside! I thought that I managed to see a tiny island with a big yellow M in the middle as a sculpture… I thought that it was an artistic display or something really really unique… until I realised I was looking at a weird yellow thing that was part of the airplane’s wing =________= OMG.
Mostly nodded in and out and we were in Sydney no time.
Overall I had fun in Melbourne… it was mostly consumer driven, but that was the whole reason why we decided to go in the first place… since we figured that all the good stuff has already been bought in Sydney
Sorry for trolling you all for this Day 3 post when there was not much to talk about… I literally didn’t realise the lack of photos I had to document this day. It WAS an eventful day, but I had nothing other than words to kinda describe it, but even so, it wasn’t all that interesting as a blog entry.
I shall offer this photoshopped pic of myself as compensation for lacklustre blogging.
On a side note, I realised my passport photo only just now vaguely resembles what I look like now, given the photo was from 5 years ago. Looks like I got a nose job and shaved my jaw. WTF.
I shall be back Tuesday (methinks) – next week, anyway. I always have crap to blog about. I’ll be back.
If you can’t see this post… it’s because you aren’t loading the images. Enjoy my first ever image post. Or well, majority image, anyway.
I’m quite excited because this is my first trip anywhere by myself which is outside of a 100km radius of my home, lol. I haven’t visited Hong Kong in almost 10 years (to be precise, about 8 years) and I’ve never used my passport ever since renewing it 5 years ago (I was excited to go to Melbourne thinking “FINALLY I CAN USE MY PASSPORT”… turns out all I needed was my driver’s licence). This entire trip has been entirely funded solely by myself… not that my other trips weren’t, but it’s a significant amount of money considering I’m a super cheapass when it comes to travelling. Tell me to spend money on a bag or something and I’d do it, but I wouldn’t spend it on a holiday. To me, holidays aren’t things I can actually physically grasp, which is why I find it hard to take money out towards it.
I’ll be away in the first half of May this year, so it’s quite a while away, but I hope that it’ll be worth the trip. I get to have my own hotel room (pretty expensive – should have bargained for a better price for a better room – but oh well, I’m only there for 9 nights and I was literally rushing since I was paranoid there would be no more rooms or tickets left and I did get an earlybird discount), which is pretty badass. I chose my hotel half on its price and 90% on its location. The MTR stop is literally just around the corner (and the hotel is like, ON the corner) – you’d be surprised how hard it is to find a hotel in Hong Kong that is within reasonable walking distance of a MTR station, isn’t overpriced, and is rated 4 stars or more. Apart from hearing that the rooms are like shoeboxes (which doesn’t bother me, because again, I’m only there for just over a week) it sounds pretty good. The guy over the phone was pretty helpful and they do speak good English. Though I was just trolling them because I can speak fluent Cantonese – touché.
For those who were wondering, I ended up paying less than the stupid Qantas package because for some reason, Cathay Pacific was cheaper AND they had direct flights. Hotel earlybird discount also helped. But guess what, today the air tickets went up $4. LOL. It was a good idea to book now… I had no idea they would get expensive so quickly. I’m too noob to know these things :\
Also, Cathay Pacific has no card charges… Qantas charged a $30 card fee. AND Qantas does have direct flights, but they force you to choose at least one way that is not direct. Sneaky.
For now I have a lot of saving up, and a lot of research to do. I really want to spend little to no time figuring out transport, so I need to know exactly which bus I can take, and how much it’ll cost – stuff like that, just like what I did for Melbourne. The reason why Melbourne was smooth was largely due to the fact that I knew where everything kind of was, and I planned it out so we didn’t waste any time. I don’t really mind wasting time in Hong Kong because there will be a point where I’ll sadly run out of money, but I do have plans which kind of get in the way – I have to visit relatives (even if it’s just an hour) and I need to get my hair done, which typically takes about half a day. One out of the two days of my only weekend there will be a day trip with le friend to Macau (I AM SO EXCITED, SHOULD I BOOK FERRY TICKETS NOW), and I will need to contact other elusive friend and see if any hello/bye contact is possible.
This time if I take my camera I promise I will take my battery with me. If not, I now have Instagram so I’ll be constantly uploading segments of my trip most likely to my Twitter – once I figure out how to get a prepaid mobile card over there. Worst comes to worst, I’ll document my entire trip with Fujifilm Instax Minis.
YAY! I’m excited!
My next blog post will be on Melbourne Day 3 (I promise – err, I mean, I’ll try). Sorry about the random posts inserted here and there – I felt gloomy and added in a rant post… then I had to write something for Gmarket because I cannot resist a potential 50,000W voucher *fingers crossed*. Then this came along because I’ve been so addicted to 9gag and wanted to do a meme post myself.
PS: All images were found on the net… I edited them using Photoshop. For rage faces the best site I’ve found is http://alltheragefaces.com
PPS: I spent literally over an hour editing those images… and it took me less than 1 minute to read through them all… I don’t think I’ll do meme posts again LOL
I haven’t updated in a while, and I had this draft piling for some time. I couldn’t be bothered splitting it into several posts (I don’t see why I need to do that, and I feel that shorter posts are probably less substantial and interesting than long posts) so I just kept accumulating this over a period of two weeks.
In a nutshell about how I’m feeling now – TIRED. Man I could so do with a break right now – I feel like my eyeballs are going to drop out of my skull any time soon. We’ve just been doing so much at work – selling, restocking, bargaining – EURGH. The psychological games we play are just DRAINING THE JUICES OUT OF MY SOUL. I just have no idea where my 2011 went because time just completely flies. Super dehydrated and probably fatigued – it’s time I really spend my days off lounging at home and restocking up on the fluid levels. My legs are super swollen and sore – I guess standing for long periods of time doesn’t do you any good either.
BUT I HAZ POST. A very different one to usual. Or not.
A week ago, I wrote this.
The weather in Sydney lately has been utterly depressing and to be honest, quite awful.
Img taken by Gakkenflex from last year’s batch. Not when it was raining though – this was sunshine after rain.
A lot of the streets in my area are flooded in the respect that you need to jump huge puddles, and cars can actually splash water onto you when they speed into puddles. Buses are doing it, cars are doing it, everything is wet and splashy. It also reminded me why I even wanted gumboots (ie. Wellingtons) in the first place – it’s just been too long since my area was all flooded and all. My trusty boots I bought last year during my domestic trip to Melbourne are slowly dying as well – I’m starting to see the rubber sole slowly detaching from the actual boot itself. This is what happens when you step into large puddles of water thinking your boots are invincible – it’s time to get a pair of actual rubber ones, as tacky as it seems. At least they’ll last longer!
Apart from moaning and groaning about getting shoes wet, this weather just reminds me of those days when I’m on a bus and I see people getting splashed as they’re walking on the sidewalk in slow mo.
So what’s been new? Again, nothing much (I don’t even know why I just type this sentence over and over again even though I have nothing new to say – I should probably just omit it from now on).
But here’s a shot of something yummy and probably calorie packed I ate -
Mango cheesecake from 85 degrees. Om nom nom nom.
The pistachio on the top is a really small and stingy portion but it was yummy none the less. The mango was sorbet-ey and the cheesecake was just right. My favourite part of the whole cake though was actually the strawberry LOL. The entire cake only came with just the two strawberry halves but for some reason I was given the strawberries so I was super delighted. The cake is for a colleague’s birthday, so I have no idea why I was given the strawberries P: I’m not complaining – I really like strawberries XD
Someone once told me that cakes from 85 degrees are made in Taiwan, frozen and then shipped to Australia >_> I really hope that’s not true because to be honest that really sounds gross lol. Probably out of all the 85 degrees cakes I’ve eaten this is probably the nicest.
I confess though, this isn’t the only super fattening thing I’ve eaten this week – we’ve been casually binging on junk like cookies, potato chips and other stuff this past week. I feel really bad because I’ve started to attend to my random cravings for pure junk – usually I’m pretty good at controlling myself because I eliminate junk out of my diet – but there are the random days when I crave eating a bowl of instant noodles. Sigh. I still need to lose weight…
Met up with friends, etcetera. Had more Chat Thai. Yeah.
Gave into temptation. Bought a cape and a new pair of boots.
A while ago, I tweeted with the question trenchcoat or cape, and pretty much the responses I got were “trenchcoat”.
Currently I can’t afford a trenchcoat trolololol (I’m quite particular about this – and it’s not going on sale, so yes, I really can’t afford it) but for some reason I was easily able to afford a cape. With this is mind, I thought I’d get the cape out of the way. I’m aware that capes/ ponchos are a thing that come in and out of fashion, but it’s been in since a few years ago – Australia’s just been too slow to catch onto it. Originally I planned to Taobao a poncho sometime in December 2010, but I gave up after doing the calculations and deciding it wasn’t worth it.
I was doing a lot of online window shopping for the past few weeks and to be really honest, I regret not buying more when Burberry was on sale. I did actually return a week later (long story, don’t really want to go into detail about it because it was a bit um – I don’t really know how to describe it) but everything was “hidden”. I’m assuming they either sold everything, or they finished up their sales by transporting their last season items elsewhere. At this time you can also insert a gif of me sighing at how overpriced everything is here. Unless it’s like, 70% off or something (then that’s a bargain).
Anywho, digressions aside, I decided to try order from a particular website which is pretty self explanatory by looking at the photograph. Not going to actually type it or anything because I’m not really reviewing the site and I’m not advertising for it either.
My parcel came in a 6kg (!!!!) plain box (I asked for basic packaging) and then inside that was another box. Le hm. The box was HUGE but it was so pretty so I didn’t throw it out… I had to lug it back home. There’s a gift option where they send a gift card as well – it was free anyway, so why not?
The box was pretty much the size of a luggage case. Yeah. Srsly.
The box contained a crapload of tissue paper to help protect the items inside – when I received it it was literally layers and layers of tissue paper that was crumpled to fill up the extra volume inside the box. I’ve folded all of that now (as you can probably see underneath the items). They said they gave me a free measuring tape, but I couldn’t find it anywhere so I assume it was just bluff. The shoe box came already damaged (one corner was taped with clear sticky tape, the other corner split open for unknown reasons – probably from transporting it) but otherwise the items are in good condition.
The two items I ordered are supposedly available in Sydney (or Australia for that matter) but they’re a lot more expensive here. I’ve been eyeing them both for a while and I did take a risk because I haven’t actually seen them in real life before ordering them :\ I’ve never actually seen them in store, don’t know whether or not they’re actually IN store or not, but I know of their existence since they exist on the online catalogue. I was still really pleased anyway – I ordered the cape in a size 8 (should have ideally ordered a 6, but oh well) and the boots fit perfectly since I’ve purchased shoes before and know what size I wear.
The cape is super warm since it’s 100% wool – I feel immune to the wind once it’s on.
Top right corner of box lid is taped. Box lid is also slightly dirty, but overall it’s not bad. The other shoe box I got from the store was completely demented in comparison to this.
Said website is slightly cheaper because you don’t pay taxes, as long as you keep your order under $1000AUD. Buying things online and having it sent with the value of $1000 or more not only makes you vulnerable to pay 10% GST, you also have to pay customs duties which is an unknown administration fee for processing your goods. The fee might vary, so you might get a surprise when you’re asked to pay taxes before having your package delivered. In my case, I kept the order well under $1000 (nowhere near thankfully) to avoid the hassle of having to pay taxes and other fees before being able to get my stuff. The delivery was also fairly quick as I received my items in less than a week in total. It was sent by DHL express.
Another website I bought from has very similar packaging and return tags as pictured. Returns for exchange are free as far as I know, which is pretty neat.
Really excited! It was also my first time paying with my debit card in a foreign currency without the use of PayPal, so I was actually really grumpy about a so-called foreign exchange transaction fee, which the bank charges. It was a whopping 3% of the total of my order, and trust me, 3% is a lot :\ In retrospect, it’s similar to PayPal’s fees (they’re just hidden in the exchange rate/ currency conversion). Having said that, the exchange rate was actually slightly better than it was about a month ago when my colleagues bought online, and the items were a lot cheaper than the Australian RRP, so I’m not complaining. I’m super happy Now that I’ve got that out of the way I am continuing to save up for savings and my next purchase. I tend to buy things I can afford first, but I’ll see how it goes.
I guess one of the best things about this is that I can use the box to organise my wardrobe and store crap I am not using in it. YES.
I was crazy once, I don’t need to be crazy a second time.
So one of my recent shoe purchases which was ridiculous, probably excessively unnecessary and probably done due to rage/quit has led to the shocking realisation that yes, I was in fact insane at the time of buying them. So much that they want me to do it again.
My mum told me I had mail but I rarely get mail so I was just confused. She made it sound super serious as well, and then I saw this – and was like wtf.
The whole situation just looks ridiculous.
I was thinking to myself “is this a new catalogue? But I haven’t even spent near enough to be a VIP… what’s going on? WHY?”
No wonder. It’s the Winter 2011-2012 range which is new. And it’s so tempting – some of the shoes in the catalogue are absolutely gorgeous!
I have a feeling I got this because I actually bought shoes from them. So yeah.
Their winter range is probably a little bit out of reach for me financially at this point of time, since I have other priorities sitting at the top of my wishlist screaming to be ticked off. Who knows though, I might actually consider it because there are some shoes that are to die for ;_;… if I win the lottery or something ;D I won’t say no if it’s a present, though.
They even slipped in a somewhat personalised letter/ note to introduce the magazine and invite me in to have a look spend money and then go bankrupt.
I kid. I wouldn’t go bankrupt, but I’d probably describe the impact like a volcano explosion within my pool of savings. BUT DAMN I AM TEMPTED. I (might) be back.
Grease Lightning: Shinara Korean Grill/ BBQ Buffet thingy
Om nom nom, ddeokbokki :Q___
So, I went with my colleagues to Korean buffet on Pitt Street. It’s $21 per person (dinner) and it’s basically all you can eat in 1.5 hours. Drinks cost extra (like $3 a can of soft drink, so that’s where they’re making their money – they don’t even have green tea – smart – that way you have nothing to help you metabolise faster) and in a nutshell – hot so take your jacket off inside, floor is oily and you leave smelling like pork. MMMM.
Of course, they will slap you with a fine if you don’t finish your food, so the image above was EXACTLY what I got on my first round scavenging for food – three sticks of rice cake and a modest serving of kimchi. Yeah. I was that paranoid so I just only got a little bit. It was a good thing I got the kimchi (I was the only one who ate it, nobody else touched it) because it helped me digest the food a bit better and allowed me to stuff my face more. But I really did play it safe because I didn’t want to have left overs.
We had 7 people, so we had 2 grills (4 people and 3 people). I was on the side with 4 people so naturally we were all eating more than anything else. And so the food – glorious food.
We mostly chose pork belly (samgyupsal), bits of random beef, some marinated chicken and beef ribs. The beef ribs were really chewy (I don’t know why we still got more even later on during the night – I guess we wanted our jaws to take a good beating), but the chicken was nice. Beef was kinda meh and chewy even in its miniature cut up form, but the pork belly. OMG. HEAVENLY PORK BELLY. I didn’t even use sauce for it the whole night… the taste of it was already good enough for me to care about sauce P:
Basically everyone’s eyes were glued to the raw meat section. Once the pork belly’s gone, they will put out a new tray – and then everyone flocks to it. If you want to eat pork belly, you gotta be fast.
Of course, they have stuff that is pre-made, like this pancake thing. It was pretty bland, actually. It tasted just like a chunk of wet flour. Ick. I wasted probably 6 centimeters cubed of space of my stomach with this. Could have fit something else in. Their kimchi pancake isn’t bad though.
Just to gross y’all out, we ended up with 1.3 cups of oil by the end of the night. ONE AND A THIRD CUPS. I had to capture this in motion just to emphasise how much pork belly we scoffed that night. We didn’t get meat just once – we went THREE TIMES (okay, to be fair it wasn’t me who went, the other girls were responsible for that) and I’m sure that between the 4 of us we probably fried more than 20 slices of pork belly.
On the third time, I have no idea why, but the girls went and got a lot of ready made food (I DON’T KNOW WHY – BUT THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO ONLY SPOONS 3 RICE CAKE STICKS TO SHARE BETWEEN FOUR PEOPLE IN A BUFFET ENVIRONMENT) and we started to really feel full and realised that it wasn’t possible to finish everything… well, not entirely, anyway.
Their japchae was pretty nice. There’s my can of Coke Zero. Still sideeyeing them pretty hard for lack of selection and absence of green tea – I didn’t even finish my can that night. I’m not a soft drink person – I just had nothing else to choose from – it was either Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Fanta or some other fizzy variation so I went for the one with the least sugar.
And yeah – that serving of rice cake in the background was another helping some time later that night.
MMMM.
So I leave you all with this post of one of the most beautiful sights you’ll see when BBQing.
YUM.
Overall, we ate so much meat we really ate more than what we paid for. My experiences with buffets have so far been dismal and have been quite average, so in terms of buffets I’ve had in my lifetime, this is probably the best I’ve had so far – it was probably greatly to do with who I went with and due to the nature of the oily goodness of pork belly though. I’ve read reviews about Shinara before and they’re quite mixed – I think there’s a pretty good mix of foods available and there’s plenty of variety. I mean, there are noodles, rice, fried rice, deep fried chicken (?), salads, fruits, side dishes – even soup. I think there’s a pretty comprehensive variety available, so there’s definitely something for everyone. Then again I wouldn’t pay for a buffet just to eat fried rice, but hey, it’s totally worth it for the pork belly or just to stuff yourself stupid with various meats.
I had a great but short night with the girls for dinner and it was fun!
And to end it all, two youtube MVs.
Probably am too excited about this song for my own good but it’s made of its own awesome. DAMN CATCHY. BUT THEY ARE ALL TOO YOUNG.
This is probably the first song I’ve ever liked from Miss A and I must say, I really dig it. I watch all their live performances of this song because they perform it like a boss.
And so now I’m dead.
GUH I am so tired. It’s currently 12:31AM and I’m awake typing this up. Hope to see you all soon again via blog post and all – currently staying up a further 23 minutes and 30 seconds to download Running Man trolololololol. That’s how I roll.
Until then, stay safe, eat lots of vegetables and say no to unhealthy habits. BOOM.
I’ve been busy this week (as usual) but made my Saturday action packed; saw uni friend A whom I haven’t seen for ages, and also had a lesson to go to. What happened to working 5 days a week and knowing my working hours? Obviously I abandoned that idea as soon as money starts entering the equation. Gee, there goes my social life and bludge time.
We’ve had a lot of fun this week at work due to gossip and I’ve been watching my colleagues matchmake for their friends – I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. Yes, I am gossipy like that – feed me gossip and I’ll take it up like it’s 2000.
One thing that I did this week of some significance was get out of the house (even in this craptastic weather – it’s pissing outside atm) was to upgrade my P1 licence to a P2 licence.
To upgrade, you need to pass a nasty computer test otherwise known as a Hazard Perception Test, which makes you sit through various video clips and asks you to touch the screen either to slow down, or when you think it’s alright to turn. I must say, if you make a boo-boo, it’s not the end of the world, because there is a way to beat the computer (the test does kinda give you the option to change your mind) – but long story short, I passed it. I was really worried about not passing it due to my horrible and traumatic experience getting my P1 licence due to a test examiner from Hell. But this is computer based so in retrospect, there wasn’t anything to be really afraid of.
It costs $38AUD to sit the test and $76 to get a new licence. That’s $114 in total (it’s not rocket science, I did the calculation old school style in the above photo – lolz), and that’s a heck of a lot of money for a plastic card when I find absolutely little to no joy in driving. I’d rather add $16 for a pair of Burberry flip flops. Boo.
Well, now that that is out of the way I don’t have to worry about this stupid licence thing for a while. The next test will be on statistics so it should be okay. OH – and my licence photo. GG. I look SO FAT IN IT. Literally my head is a ball with my eyes, nose and mouth all being so tiny and swimming in a pool of skin colour – ARGH. What’s worse is that my head isn’t in the centre of the photograph… it’s leaning towards one side D: HE COULDA TOLD ME TO RETAKE THE PHOTO T_T Cringing really badly at the moment, but what can I do? I’ll just wait it out and look forward to getting my full licence – then I’ll be able to get a new card and hopefully a better photo :S I guess the main thing is that I passed, yes? Doesn’t really matter about the photo I suppose. I guess it’s not toooooo bad if I attempt to brainwash myself into thinking it’s alright >_>
No more shoes. If I buy another pair any time soon, there must be something wrong with me. Like, mentally.
I think the subtitle is really self-explanatory; I need to stop buying shoes.
Alright, I don’t have as many shoes as other people to be honest (I could have more), but the thing is that I have a lot of pairs I haven’t even started to wear – then then funnier thing is that I don’t really have much place to put them. I’m the type of person to really get sucked into buying shoes if shoes are really cheap (buy one pair for $x or get two pairs of $<2x) so I generally make my mum really pissed off because I fill up the storeroom with random crap I don’t even need. Another really bad thing about my shoe buying habit is that I tend to buy shoes that don’t fit me just because I think they’re cheap. It’s a really dumb way of buying things and it really needs to stop.
I think the whole shoe-buying thing I have going on wouldn’t be so bad if I actually bothered to buy better quality shoes and actually wear them – I rarely wear good quality shoes (I choose the looks over comfort and match it with my outfit rather than thinking on a practical scale) – I guess it’s because my mum knows I buy cheap shoes, don’t wear them, and throw them out after a few wears because they fall apart easily.
But then I saw these shoes and thought – “hello, you look pretty.”
Yes. Uh oh. Two pairs of shoes in the past 2-3 weeks apparently isn’t enough for my sudden shoe-monster appetite, and basically I impulse’d.
So even the tissue paper looks kinda fancy, but the red line thing is not so normal - because most people know Prada as the pure white shopping bag. I know basically nothing about Prada since I wasn’t really a fan of it (I used to not care about it, but recently I’ve been finding it growing on me), but this happens to be the packaging of the so called Prada “Red Label” series. Just like how Burberry has Burberry London, Burberry Sport and whatnot, Prada has – from what I now know – three types of labels: Black label, white label and red label. Black labels are for runway shows, white labels are classic items, and red labels are used for more sporty, younger items – not to mention, it is cheaper as well.
I didn’t know the meaning of the red label at first, but if I said that I didn’t mind, it’s a lie. Sure, I bought the shoes because I liked them. Whatever the colour the label it is, a Prada is still a Prada, but red label items are considerably cheaper and, well, a lot of red label items are made in China, which was kinda disappointing. This pair of shoes has it marked very very far inside the shoe that you can barely see it, but honestly, I was hoping for it to be made in Italy. Then again though, heaps of people still wear Burberry bags made in China (after paying ridiculous prices) and even Coach does it too. There’s nothing wrong with the quality – but I feel that if I’m paying a certain amount of money, it should go to the workers – that’s obviously not the case since it’s well known that Chinese workers are a cheap source of labour. Therefore in short, it’s freaking expensive for something made in China, even though it’s designer.
Don’t mistake me – I have seen designer items made in China and there’s nothing wrong with quality. Even the NY Times has noted that even if it states it’s made in Italy, it might not even be true.
Well, now that I know, I’ll watch out for this in the future. It’s not a good idea to naturally assume all Prada goods are made in Italy – because well, it’s not true.
To be honest though, nobody will know or care where the freaking shoe is made once it’s on your foot -
Red label items come in a silver box and well – silvery stuff. I received the shoes (very well packaged), care instructions and a dustbag for the shoes.
On the side of the box, it is embossed/ hotstamped with the model number, colour of the shoe and its size.
I apologise for the bad photo quality (it was raining and the lighting is really bad) – the inside of the shoe is marked with the shoe size and the model number. The dustbag can be seen under my shoes, which is a silver nylon bag with the Prada red label on it. Note that this is kinda dodgy, because usually with patent leather shoes, you should be getting 2 dustbags so that they don’t get damaged – receiving just one dust bag is kinda iffy, but if that’s how it works, that’s how it goes.
The shoes are pretty much 100% leather where they should be. The red label itself is made of rubber. Forgetting about where it’s made, how do the shoes perform?
Well, firstly, the quality is really good. I don’t really see anything wrong with the shoes – they’re as perfect as they can be. The leather is really soft and I like it that way, because it means it won’t kill your feet. Another thing to note is the sizing – this is a 36 and it fits perfectly. When I first saw them I was freaked out that they’d be too small, but it turns out they were perfect – not tight and not loose. In terms of comfort levels, I must say these are really amazing in terms of comfort – I didn’t expect them to be so soft and comfortable when on, so that was a really big surprise. These are definitely good to wear to work or a long day/ night out – no problems whatsoever.
The sole itself is kinda smooth, so it’s not really non-slip, but from what I gather, the sole should be made of a high quality rubber which should more or less have non-slip properties even though it doesn’t look it.
In terms of design, they’re quite nice. The only thing I didn’t like about them was the peep toe (but I decided to ignore it) – the heel could also be less chunky, but it’s not too bad considering how easy it is to wear and balance on these. No sweat at all – EZ PZ.
Honestly speaking, if I didn’t look for it, I wouldn’t have even known that these shoes weren’t Italian made – they’re so comfortable and nice in quality I could barely give a stuff where it’s made. Out of the three pairs of shoes I’ve bought in May, this pair is probably the most comfortable and fits well, believe it or not. I’m currently really looking forward to finding an excuse to wear them~ although I got these on impulse, they turned out to be part of the “Shoes I’d definitely wear” list.
On that note, my mum didn’t get angry at me for buying so many shoes recently. I guess I’ve convinced her that these shoes will probably last longer, fit better and would be in style for longer so she can’t really complain For now though I really need to stop spending (at least on shoes)- this is seriously going to be my last pair of shoes for this year at the very least – I’m thinking of buying my mum a present for her birthday but it’s in October, so I don’t know if I should buy it now or wait until later to do so. She’s kinda creeping me out lately because out of the blue she’s been offering to give me money to buy a trenchcoat – I declined because I felt that it was too pricey. Usually my mum is the one who thinks stuff is expensive – this time it’s the other way around, so I need to get things straight >_> What have I done :\
Well, anyway, overall I’m really pleased. If I had the option to buy another pair of shoes, I wouldn’t hesitate at all and say yes to Prada – the comfort level is so good that I’m really surprised. I really do need to save money (I saved basically nothing this month – lols) – next month I’ll be saving money now that I’ve bought everything I needed to buy or spend money on. Yes, that shall be my decision for now.
What’s up next?
I’m going to be busy until Saturday but somewhere in the span of the next week I’ll put up a Gmarket Haul post. It’s been a while and I kinda left it on the side for quite some time. I have taken the photos and it’s going to be a short post, but I never got the time to actually do it. I’ve obviously been too sidetracked by other things that are shiny and all
Until next time, be safe and dress appropriately for the weather – weather’s been crazy lately. Laters!
So, today was the fabulous – or not so fabulous – day that people may or may not look forward to.
Yes, I got older. ‘Twas my birthday.
I only got home about 5 minutes before I turned older trololol but at least I made it in time back home. I’ll most likely blog about presents (self given, from others) later this weekend. I’m sorry for this crappy short post – I know I promised to blog on Thursday night, but considering I fell sick on Tuesday night, and then only got home at 11:55pm on the eve of my birthday, I honestly didn’t have any time to write up any drafts. I can promise they’ll come this weekend, and they WILL come this weekend. If they don’t, I’ll rip a hole in one of my stockings. Seriously.
Viral infection, tonsils decided to roar and block food consumption etc.
So I got a viral infection. It started probably some time during the weekend (I was feeling quite tired, thirsty, etc etc) but I didn’t really rest much. It then eventuated into me having a high fever (our thermometer said anything between 37.4 to even 38.5 degrees) and I had a fever all night long. At the same time my sore throat then eventuated into swollen tonsils twice the size of what they should be. I’ve never felt anything like it before for such a long time – just the feeling of having to remove a heavy coat and still be shivering even though your temperature is way more than it should be is quite a creepy afterthought. Not to mention that every single muscle in your body feels sore. Gee gee.
Needless to say, it didn’t take much consideration to decide to see a doctor and take a day off work the next day to see what the problem was considering my fever was so bad. Doctor tells me to simply take Panadol for pain relief and the sickness will go away by itself. Antibiotics are apparently useless against viruses (which I know is true). But – and there’s always a but – I did feel a lot better – then when I go to sleep I have the worst sleep ever. EURGH. THE SICKNESS RETURNS WHEN I ATTEMPT TO SHUT MY BRAIN DOWN.
So that was fairly stupid. I’m still sick now. Not sure how sick I am, but I know it was pretty serious to begin with.
Got tipsy at work. Like a sales assistant.
So what happened a few weeks ago was that my manager found it amazingggg that I’ve never drank champagne before in my life. A little bit of buzz trivia, champagne is only named champagne if it’s actually from France – if it’s just bubbly white wine but it’s from not France, that’s just bubbly white wine – not champagne. But anyway, she was then like ” ALRIGHT, IMMA GET YOU A BOTTLE WHEN IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY”.
To my uttermost surprise, she did get me a bottle (of course, we all started chugging it down at work kekeke at a tender time of approximately 4:30pm) and well, yes, it tastes like white wine. I find that the bubbles really do seriously make the alcohol travel fast – I was completely red and I think a customer was looking at me strangely (this is what you get for not having a thick layer of makeup on). Tipsy is an overstatement, because I wasn’t actually near tipsy – but it just sounded cooler that way.
And no, we didn’t make any mistakes even though we had alcohol on the job – I was actually still pretty sharp and spotted a discrepancy in some paperwork. HA!
But yes, courtesy of the boss et al I had a small cake and even a present which I really didn’t expect – thanks so much! Really appreciate it and never thought that I’d actually have my birthday celebrated in such a crazy way O_O
Okay there was more to this post but wordpress decided to not autosave the rest of it – so I shall end it here. Will post up something with pics and with more detail in the next 48 hours. Until then, happy unicorns and heart shaped cheerios – I SHALL UPDATE AGAIN SOON.
I’ll keep this as condensed as possible – I paid around $300 for my items and $60 in shipping. I was refunded about $15-$20 back (estimated weight was over 10kg, actual weight was less than 6.5kg). I had one cancellation (out of stock item – which I realised was the cute Nordic knit jumper I wanted *cries*) and I cancelled two items myself.
Freebies? There were none. Mistakes? There were truthfully quite a few – so here’s the haul. Anything separated by the white lines are from different sellers. Those bounded within the white lines together as a group were purchased from the same seller. I mostly ordered so long sleeved clothes for winter (I think my job is fairly stable at the moment – so I can go ahead and order more black clothes for my wardrobe to weep and house-) and some random stuff that I really wanted to wear/ wanted to have.
1 Jumper
2 Long Sleeved Blouse
3 Etude House
4 Laneige Water Sleeping Pack
5 3x concentrated serums
6 3/4 sleeved chiffon dress
7 Skirts and shorts
8 Cardigans
9 Dresses and a wrong item
10 Simple Black elastic belt
11 Two pairs of jeans, one which is the wrong colour.
1 Jumper
Sorry for the blurry photo. I might update it later (usually I take more than one photograph but for some reason I didn’t do that this time >_>) – anyway this seller was the one who did the cancellation. I originally ordered a Nordic knit jumper which I thought was super adorable… but it was probably out of stock so I didn’t get it I’m sad because I prefer that jumper over this one any day.
Anyway, this was just a simple long sleeved jumper which I thought was appropriate for work – having said that, I paid perhaps around $15 for this and I’m a bit disappointed. The material is a bit thin and flimsy, but it’s still okay quality (the stuff that jerseys are made out of, just really thin). There’s no label or tag on it either, which was a bit of a disapointment. Otherwise this shouldn’t be bad on casual days – I haven’t tried it, but I’m assuming it’s quite comfortable.
2 Long Sleeved Blouse
The material of this shirt is actually better than what it looks like in the photo. Basically it’s a long sleeved blouse made of something like polyester. It comes with a tie and also a bit of a cape for the shoulder area. There’s also a tag and a label. I paid around $17 for this, so this is on the slightly “pricier” side, but I thought it was worth getting for its uniqueness. I guess it’s a bit pointless since I wear a jacket at work to cover the shoulders anyway, but I think it’s not bad for autumn. Probably a bit too little for winter, but we’ll see.
I’ve worn this already and I must say it’s fairly comfortable, but the way that the sleeves are proportioned makes it seem a bit tight (though it’s not since the material is stretchy). Also since most blouses will probably have gaps (or at least I notice I get them) where you button your chest area, the tie is pretty much compulsory if you don’t want to flash yourself. Or, you can opt to wear something else underneath like a singlet.
3 Etude House
Again, these came in ridiculous amounts of bubble wrap, but altogether I spent around $32 to get the freebie, which was a cosmetics purse (pictured on the far left). Apart from being awed by the extremely large imitation pearl on the zipper, I was pretty disappointed to see that that was the ONLY freebie I got. No samples, nothing. But I really wanted the cosmetics purse because I found it so incredibly cute. I am a girly girl at heart
If you also haven’t realised, I didn’t get an awful lot of stuff for $32… I ordered a lip gloss ($7), sleeping pack ($7), two nail essences (around $3 each), two lip balms – one in strawberry and the other peach ($6 each) and two eyebrow drawing pencils ($3 each). I honestly don’t think I’ll be buying Etude House any time soon because it’s really getting quite expensive (and not to mention its novelty is starting to wear off on me since I have so much Etude House stuff to use now) – but the lip balms are really good! So far they’re doing a better job than Khiel’s Lip Balm #1, which is surprising me a lot. They are really highly fragranced but they last a while, and the best part is that they don’t taste like anything. The worst thing about a lip balm that is flavoured is that there’s a high chance of it tasting disgusting - with these they’re just fragranced lip balms so I’m really happy with that. I have yet to try the elip gloss, but that’ll be for later I gave one nail essence and one eyebrow pencil to my mum to use – so far she’s digging the brow pencil because she doesn’t need to sharpen it. Lolz.
4 Laneige Water Sleeping Pack
As I mentioned from the last haul, these sleeping mask packs are super cheap considering I get the same amount as the “official” jar but at half the price it retails for. Totally worth it! Gmarket sells the 80ml jar for $17 – Sasa sells the same thing for $27!!! These just go for $9. Honestly, I’d buy these without any hesitation at all! Why pay so much more for the same thing >_<
5 3x concentrated serums
I think I found the link to these from another Gmarket blog post from the March issue, and I was pretty sold on these. These 3 serum jars are HUGE! There are quite a few to choose from, and these were just under $10 for all three of them. Serums can be extremely pricey, and since these were so cheap I had to give them a go. Trust me, go for serums because they’re going to be the next big thing in skincare trends. I’ve been seeing people use serums here and there lately – it’s just because they’re so thin and easy on the skin but provided concentrated amounts of goodies for your skin.
I ordered collagen, Q10 and Hyaluronic Acid, which are all good for the skin. Ever since I started working I started to get a bit paranoid with dry skin and all – these will definitely help me in the long run.
6 3/4 sleeved chiffon dress
The coathanger you’ve been seeing in most of the photos in this post actually came free with this item. I was really surprised at the packaging for this item because it came with the coathanger and a large plastic bag around it like you were going to take this dress to the dry cleaners. It comes with a tag and a label and the quality is overall quite good. It’s a bit too loose (and the style probably isn’t right for a waist belt), but I think this was a quality item from this order. I think it was around $15 or so for this dress or possibly more, but I bought it because I really liked its collar. Not a bad buy – the dress length is also pretty good for me too.
7 Skirts and shorts
Well, this was a pretty good quality skirt – has a lining and it’s a bit different. I was going to wear this as an underskirt thing, and I think it’ll do the trick quite well. It’s also good enough to be a skirt (which can be worn alone) but I have a feeling it’s a bit too short for that. This was pretty cheap, I think it was like $8 or something, so I’m happy with it. No labels though or anything – which I am not fussed about to be honest. The elastic is really strong and tight though, so the sizing is a wee bit on the small side, but I actually prefer it since it means that the skirt will stay where it should be
I ordered this beige skirt – looked amazing in the photos, but is awful in real life. This was the same price as the black polkadot skirt but it’s better off used as a curtain :\ It has a lining but it’s not opaque – it’s still really transparent D: I can also see the overlocking in the underlining and the skirt is sooooo long that I can pull it up over my chest, add a belt and it’ll be a dress. Even when I do that it makes me look so fat :\ Either way, this is really not my style and I won’t ever really get a chance to wear it – pretty much a shame
Two shorts which I added to my order for around $4 each. These are just for under a dress or skirt as safety shorts – they’re okay in quality as they’re made of cotton. I have a feeling the white shorts are still going to be translucent, but then again, they’re white lol. Fairly cheap for safety shorts ^.^
8 Cardigans
I ordered 2 of the same cardigan ($17ea) in pink and a blue. The pink cardigan isn’t really well made as there is a bit of string popping out of the pocket, and one of the pockets isn’t sewn on all that nicely which is a bit of a shame. The blueish green cardigan however is really well made and I really like it. I think it looks better on me than the pink one.
The size is fairly large (boxy, to be precise) but it’s really quite warm and it’s thick enough even for colder weather. I really like these cardigans a lot – but yes, no tags or labels – and the pink cardigan definitely isn’t so great in quality. Other than that, I’m happy with the price and how warm these are!
9 Dresses and a wrong item
This is a really nice tight hugging dress and it’s really flattering when worn. It’s a bit on the short side (this is an understatement – it’s really a minidress on me) but I really like the vintagey style. In other words, it’s amazing when worn – great for work (well, not really actually – it’s okay for work as a top but not as a dress), really chic, belt isn’t required, and you can even wear it out to an evening party. There are actually little sequins sewn on here and there as a detail, which is pretty cute and overall I really like the piece. There were some problems though – as you can see there’s no label or tag, there are bits of string and fluff coming off the dress (because of the sequins/ material – you need to be careful because they do pull and get longer and longer…) and I actually paid quite a bit for this dress (somewhere between $15-$20) so I was expecting at least a tag.
Last haul (or the one before, I can’t remember) I purchased a vintagey short sleeved dress from this seller which was excellent quality, so I decided to purchase again. Well, the style is beautiful, but the quality is a bit lacking.
Oh, it’s a bit thin as well, but nothing to worry about, this dress comes with a lining, so it’s all good
This was one of my highlights in this order – this top is gorgeous. I really love it even though I haven’t tried it on yet. Just only one irk – the label is definitely not sewn in the middle – it’s off-centre. It’s a very minor thing, but it’s just something I happened to notice.
I didn’t order this LOL. I distinctively remembered ordering a babydollish beige dress, but for some reason I received this!!!
Well, the style is really nice and it comes with a label and it’s actually fairly warm, but I’m a bit disappointed because this is honestly not really my style and I didn’t order this. Oh well, it’s alright -it’ll look pretty cute worn over a dress or something, so it’s okay.
Another work top – this one when worn is also pretty nice – it’s really nicely fitted and the top part is poofy with a layer of chiffon. It’s just a really unique piece and I really like it. Again, no label or tag though, which makes this seller pretty inconsistent. But what can I say? I really like the vintagey style that this seller has to offer, so there’s not really all that much to complain about – could be a bit cheaper, though. But then again, for getting such unique pieces, it’s probably worth paying that much. These items just look really nice and flattering when worn, so I’m happy. The biggest problem with this top is that the material used for the “stomach” area tends to ride up during the day :\ Every time I reach for something or I find myself walking really fast, the top will just ride up. I recommend wearing something underneath like a singlet, or wearing this with a highwaisted bottom garment to avoid any embarassment during the day (which I experienced), since I had to keep pulling this top down.
10 Simple Black elastic belt
This came in a plastic ziplock bag (a very small one) and that’s about it. I paid $4 or so for this, and the quality is surprisingly quite nice. I bought it because it was so cheap and I needed a plain black belt for work.
Well, I remember that it was possible to get a freebie, but apparently it didn’t happen. Possibly I remember it wrong since it was such a long time ago, but either way, whatever – this was well worth the money. You wouldn’t be able to buy anything similar here for $4. Belts here go for at least $10 and they’re nothing like this.
11 Two pairs of jeans, one which is the wrong colour.
Okay, so these jeans look pretty fat and gross, but they’re actually both skinny jeans and when worn, they actually fit really nicely – the black one is a bit tight around the hips (the design is a bit iffy because it goes in suddenly and squeezes the top part in a really unnecessary way – or rather, the workmanship isn’t good, because my left hip hurt whereas my right hip felt comfortable) and the material is thick, stiff and coarse. But the blue jeans are really comfortable and are really nice and soft – the material is comparable to some expensive jeans I’ve seen in my lifetime that go for around $70 or more so I’m happy with them.
I actually ordered two pairs of BLACK jeans, but I didn’t expect that one pair was going to be blue. Or at least, I saw that they were black in the photos. Either way, all is forgiven because the blue ones are so damn comfy
The blue jeans were from a brand named “Yong” and the black jeans were from a brand named “Mir”. The blue jeans however had a really gross strong smell to them when I took them out of the packaging – it’ll take a few washes to get it out, but like I said, bad smell and wrong colour aside, they are such a perfect fit I can’t really complain.
The best part is that one of these pairs was like $7 and the other pair was $10. Super cheap – jeans are definitely worth buying from Gmarket. I was going to get some more acid wash jeans but I stopped myself since I only have two days off a week to wear my own clothes.
Overall
So there were a few unexpected hiccups in this order – but overall I still feel like I got a good amount of stuff for how much I spent. Basically after unwrapping everything I ended up with a mini mountain of clothes which would fill up a quarter of a wardrobe easily.
I also ordered one other thing (it is for a friend’s present, so I won’t post it up here since it should be a surprise), and everything came in good order. I guess it’s just not the season to have big sales or to give away freebies, but the overall quality is pretty good. In general the pricier items were better in quality but it’s hard to tell since the quality of my cardigans were so different even though they were the same style and same price.
I know, I shouldn’t be ordering, but I finally accumulated enough monies and decided I was running out of eyeliner (since liquid eyeliner is now my new love and I use it 5/7 days if not more because of work) and a warm winter jacket so I went ahead and ordered. Oh, and I also managed to rip both pairs of my black stockings from the previous Gmarket order – serves me right for ordering like $1.50 stockings – but oh well, such is life.
The ordering process was fast and I received my items pretty much within a week from ordering – with the exception of dun dun dun Australia Post. Seriously, this EMS guy – I don’t even know why he even bothers. He “left us a card” and wrote 24/2 (24th February) on the box – (1) We didn’t get carded (2) Parcel was still in Korea on the 24th. It was just a blatant lie. My mum had to pick it up from the Post Office for me (I gave her the details of the parcel) without a card, and the post office worker was like “oh no it says that…” HOW ABOUT NO. We picked up the parcel on the 1st of March (tracking website says it arrived at the post office on the 28th of February). IF we were carded on the 24th February, please do the math – that’s NOT express messenger service by ANY means. Seriously. The stupidest thing was I got the card in my mailbox on the 2nd of March AFTER we picked it up (at least CHECK the parcel is still in the Post Office instead of lazily writing a card, forgetting to put it into our mailbox – or is it because you can’t even find our mailbox to begin with???). I pay money to have EMS parcels at MY place either via card or manual delivery one or two days the parcel actually arrives in Australia, NOT several days afterwards – if that was what I wanted I could have paid for registered instead. REALLY? REALLLY?!
That aside I’m fairly pleased with my items, with the exception of maybe one or two items. I’ll write why.
Firstly – I apologise for some of the photos – I had taken a few during nighttime because that’s the time I can take photos since I get home lateish because of work. I managed to retake some photographs, but nothing too detailed. Just bear with me (people, it’s bear not bare which means to remove clothing) and I hope these photos shall suffice
Stockings and pants (as in, legging pants)
Wool trench coat
Etude House
Black flats
Laneige sleeping pack samples
1. Stockings and Legging pants
Well, as I already said, I ripped my cheap stockings and decided that black legging pants weren’t bad (since they’re relatively cheap, opaque and are really nice fit – of course I wear them under a dress, and not really as pants) so I tried this seller since they were really cheap and had a lot to choose from. Everything was around $4 or $5 so I ordered a bunch of stuff.
As you can tell, the packaging for various things actually varied a lot to looking decent, to looking plain cheap. I think the quality should be alright – but as you can probably see the second pair from the right is grey – it was meant to be a sparkly black but I guess that was a slight unfortunate miscommunication in colour. The purple leggings are for fun (ie. everything black in this photo is obviously meant for my work uniform dress code – sad sad sad – but work is not equal to life! Therefore you should buy stuff you want to wear on your rare days off ;D) and that’s really about it. I haven’t taken anything out of the packaging, but I’m just having my fingers crossed that it’s alright. So far, it looks decent.
2. Wool trenchcoat
I was really really really really really looking forward to this because the coat is absolutely gorgeous. I knew that if I was going to pay around $30, it was going to be stunning, amazing etc. And it is. It comes with a belt and another thing you can attach to the back of the coat to cover your shoulders. There is some weight to this coat and it’s fairly heavy and thick, but the lining is excellent, the cut is excellent and the buttons aren’t cheap at all.
My biggest problem is that I accidentally ordered the wrong size
I’m a size 66 in Korean tops (and bottoms for that matter) and I accidentally chose size 55 instead I think it was mainly to do with the fact that it was late, I got home from work and had to push the order through – possibly the sizes were in alphabetical order rather than size order, so I picked the latter option by mistake. This is a lesson to all of you – please choose the right item - I chose the right item but the wrong size! I’m so gutted but I know there’s no way I can return this to Gmarket since it’ll cost way too much to return. My only choice is to either suck it up and wear it anyway (which I can, but it’s tight since I have broad shoulders), or to sell it off.
It’s honestly a beautiful coat and you can’t buy this here in Australia without spending close to $200, I can promise you all on that. For now, I’ll just have to keep losing weight and hope my arms turn into sticks so I can wear this lovely thing. This was the saddest yet happiest thing I received in this order – how unfortunate
3. Etude House haul
Etude House changes their freebies every month and offer different gifts with purchase depending on how much money you spend. This month there was an option whereby you spend between 30,000- 50,000 Won and get a free Miss Tangerine cup (Miss Tangerine is the new line of orange cosmetics which Dara of 2NE1 is currently endorsing). I didn’t like any of the other gifts, and if I spent over 50,000Won I would have received something else. I truly had a difficult time cutting down the cost of items just to get the free cup D: But the cup is really nice
I ordered an AC pink powder spot treatment – I watched a Youtube video on a similar product (you dip a cotton tip into the solution, get a bit of the powder on the bottom and apply it to pimples – apparently it’s very effective) and hoped that this has the same effect. I was surprised to see that it comes in a pack with cotton tips and an acne cleanser included. I think this was around $12 or something, so I’m pleasantly surprised, but I thought the bottle would have been larger. Oh well.
I also stocked up on the Proof 10 eye primer (it’s a must if you don’t want flakey eyeliner), and ordered an Etude House Aqua Tint, which is a red tint (also comes in a hot pinkish colour) which can be used on the lips. I was planning on using it as a liquid blusher to speed up my morning routine, so I’m looking forward to using it. I also ordered a moistfull collagen eyecream since my mum keeps raving on about it – so I decided to complete my set (if you remember last time I hoarded the emulsion and toner sets XD).
Last but not least, Code B Cream eyeliner. Comes in a small frosted glass (?) pot and a brush. The brush has a cap and the cap can be attached to the lid of the eyeliner pot, so you don’t lose the brush. Handy! I hope that it’s really good and all, because I wanted to order the Oh m’eye Line liquid liner in black, but Etude House was out of stock :\
Overall I’m happy with Etude House, except they really do bundle everything in so much bubble wrap it’s ridiculous – like the eye primer already has a box but the bubble wrap was like 5-6 layers thick! Another thing if you haven’t realised is that they’re being a bit stingy on the freebies – they used to include lots, but now there are no samples at all – just the gift with purchase. That’s alright still, but I thought that they would have included at least one sample, but they didn’t.
4. Black flats
This time I tried a different seller (since the last seller refused to sell me a pair of $3.50 shoes with free domestic shipping ) – these flats equated to approximately $6 but I paid the 2,500Won domestic shipping fee. The gift was a pair of shoe inserts, which are really really bad quality. >_> The shoes came wrapped in a fibre bag each which was nice, and they were nicely stuffed with tissue paper which was held by those wire rods shoes have these days. The faux leather is really soft and excellent quality – it doesn’t give you blisters and they are really nicely sized, and it also has a non slip sole which is really surprising to see - however there were a few problems.
The back part of the shoe is too low so the elastic doesn’t hold onto your foot enough – it slips off your foot easily. My right foot is considerably smaller than my left, and my right shoe slips off once pretty much every 15 steps I take. I tried to put an insole in to fix the problem, but it didn’t do much for me at all. The design of the shoe was just not right to begin with :\
In the second image you can also tell that the decoration is already off centre and you can see a white patch – that white patch is something like glue. The extra strings you see are on both shoes – in other words, after wearing them to work (approximately 12 hours) both shoes have the strings loosened, and the decoration on my right shoe is already off. Pretty shoddy workmanship, but the synthetic leather softness really makes up for it. Too bad I can’t really wear them unless I wear like thick socks or something…
I’ll have to fix the right shoe once I have some free time, and to actually wear these shoes I’ll have to also think of a way to wear them so that they don’t slip off my heel. It’s unfortunate because they’re nice and soft… but the design really let this one down.
5. Laneige Sleeping Pack Samples
I ordered 4x20ml Laneige Water Sleeping Pack sample jars because I was having some trouble with my skin’s moisture levels. I usually do a sheet mask maybe once every 2 weeks, but because I’m tired, I usually skip any long skincare routines. I hoped that this would at least be a good substitute and because I haven’t tried Laneige before, I was hoping it’d be good.
It’s actually pretty good – it actually smells like the liquid you get in a sheet mask. It absorbs quickly and has a nice cooling effect – moisturises okay – but I’ll write more on this in another post (an actual review).
Anyway, Laneige samples are a lot cheaper than the actual product – if you do the math, there’s 80ml worth of mask, and I paid $9 for it. The 80ml jar sold by Laneige retails at around $17 – it’s not rocket science to figure that you can get the same amount of stuff for about half the price, so I was fairly pleased and looking forward to this.
Overall
I was pleased with my items. Even though my shoe decorations are pretty much falling off, I still like them aside from the fact I can’t really wear them without wearing them like slippers. I also am in love with my wool trench but I’m really sad that I ordered the wrong size… if it was a size 66 everything would have been perfect, but that was my own fault and I have nobody to blame for it.
I ordered in total 166, 000Won ish of stuff incuding shipping, which is not bad at all. The shipping estimate was 3.84kg, but the actual weight was 3.91kg which was pretty accurate so I didn’t have to pay any extra. Shipping and everything was fast – just some external factors were negative, but I’m really pleased with this order regardless.
I ordered a lot of stuff the week before (4th January). I ended up cancelling a top and another order I combined (which I made on the 5th), but those items still didn’t arrive by Friday/ Saturday of that week – so I cancelled them in the hopes I’d get my order fast. My wishful thinking didn’t really come true It ended up being sent out on Monday the 10th January. I received it in just 10 days total today, 13th January. For those who are new or missed it, I live in Sydney Australia so it was fairly quick. My favourite EMS postman also happened to be working today and so I got it early at 9am this morning. BOOOOYEAH.
I ordered a pair of black flats that were on sale, but the seller cancelled them because I think they weren’t making enough profit from it =_= Lame. Not sure if I want to buy from them again – I’ve been a regular customer so that was disappointing =_= Not like their terms and conditions required me to buy more than one pair. Oh well. I’ll probably save up once I start working for a pair of Ferragamo Salvatore ballet flats.
NOTE: Why I bought these clothes.
There was one reason why I was so rushed to get this order: I ordered work clothes, so I really needed them before I started work. My work dress code is black (entirely black, no other block colours or colours at all, no funky patterns). You cannot believe how insanely difficult it was to find clothes that are just ONE colour.
Therefore, keeping this in mind:
All clothes I buy must be black, one colour, no funky patterns.
Skirts must be about 45cm long to touch my knee. This is extremely rare in Gmarket and could be expensive (up to $40 or more for these) so it was really hard finding something that long.
Dresses should almost touch my knee.
It was like going on a scavenger hunt, and it took me a very long time.
I placed a 30cm (12 inch) ruler in front of my box. I can tell you, this box is HUGE. So huge that when you open it, it’s only half filled. I think you can see that I have a poster tube inside, which is why this box was used To put the box into perspective, you probably could put a 5-6 year old kid or extra long, large adult sausage dog in the box and it’d fit – haha. But yeah, no, don’t try that please.
Here is the list of stuff I bought. Feel free to read everything or skip to the appropriate section.
1 – Belt
2 – GD&TOP CD + poster
3 – 2 black tops
4 – Skirt
5 – Skirt
6 – Harlem pants
7 – 4 pairs of Pantyhose (aka translucent stockings)
8 - 2 pairs of black dress pants
9 - A dress and a skirt
10 – Etude House mini haul.
The total for this order was about $235USD including shipping. I cancelled a top (~$10USD), a pair of shoes were cancelled (~$5USD) and I was refunded a grand total of ~$16USD worth of shipping back to my Cash balance. Therefore, the real total for the 18 items (note I counted the poster and CD as one) is around $205USD (it’s the same in Australian dollars, if not then $206AUD). That’s about $12 per item on average shipped. Not bad at all, considering there’s no way you can buy the majority of the items I bought for just $12.
1 – Belt
Let’s face it – there’s no way I will be able to wear a designer belt with a hugeass silver buckle to work. So I needed a simple black belt.
The belt looks like it’s quite well made and it’s just enough for whatever I need it for. I think over time it will start to break down and get gross, but I’m not concerned about that.
The belt came with free domestic shipping, a bunch of download coupons (if I bought 2 belts I could have gotten a freebie like a pair of socks/ another belt/ you get the idea) and the price was 3,900 Won. That’s like $3. You’d be looking at $10 at the markets, so this was dead simple, really cheap and I’m happy with it. I have a hole puncher for belts so I can easily punch holes into this if needed. Simple, easy.
2 – GD&TOP 1st Album with poster in tube
I love Big Bang. TOP is my favourite member and this album is made of gold. Literally.
For those who didn’t know, the album comes in 5 different colours and usually ships in random colours. There are also several sets of posters, and those are shipped at random too. I had no idea what I was going to get and I was dreading getting red as it was in the stock pic. To my surprise, I got gold, which actually looks fan-flipping-tastic and surprisingly looks super dope. I dig.
The CD comes in a hardcase which was bubble wrapped. There was Korean newspaper lining the bottom of the box to fill up empty space so the CD wouldn’t clunk around. The CD comes with the photobook (it’s attached to the case I think, but OMG THE PHOTOS ARE BEAUTIFUL), there’s a YG Family Card included (doesn’t have a photo, it’s a scratchie card which allows you to sign up), and there’s a mini pamphlet on the boys and other information. SCHWEET.
The poster I received is beautiful ;_; It legitimately makes my wall look like some awesome room in a photography exhibition or magazine office. Gripe is I can see their blackheads lololol. Who has more? GD
But the poster is really big – it’s probably A1 sized. BEAUTIFUL. FLAWLESS. ETC. Not sure if I’m going to hang it up because it’s landscape (I’d do it if it was portrait) but it’s worthy of being framed. Honestly. ZOMG.
Down the bottom of the poster you can see another roll – the seller threw in an extra poster for free (A3 sized) which is actually a pretty crap poster [you can't see anything, really - mostly a blurry GD and some backup dancers], but it was from G-Dragon’s Shine a Light concert
The CD was going for almost 15,000Won, including the poster. Note that some listings list this for 12,000Won ish and you add 1,000 Won for the poster – and possibly you need to pay domestic shipping. That’s pretty standard, but I chose a more expensive listing with everything included. Note some cheaper listings do NOT come with the YG Family card. I removed the seller’s discount and applied Gmarket’s CD/Books/DVDs voucher so I got this for 12,000Won in the end. This seller is really fast (shipped INSTANTLY once I placed the order) so I’m pleased. Don’t forget I got a free poster.
3 – tops
So these are going to be work tops. They look a bit casual but I think it’s okay since my work supplies me with a blazer to wear on top. Both are chiffon or polyester (I don’t know what they are) and they’re both designed really well – because they are double layered where it should be double layered. When I wear these, I can’t see underwear or anything, so it looks really neat. They’re pretty good for summer I think since they’re thin, but beware, they do seem a bit on the “oops I might rip this” side. Otherwise, they are excellently designed, only come in one size (fits me very well) so it’ll accommodate up to anyone who is size 66.
They both come with labels, but no tags. They were both about 12,900 Won – and trust me, it took me forever to find these on Gmarket, since it’s winter in Korea.
4 – Skirt
This was a really cheap skirt (the cheapest I bought) that I bought for 8,800 Won. It has an elastic waist so it’s free sized. The material looks sturdy but it’s actually stretchy and looks pretty bad when I wear it. I’m a size 66 (top and bottom) and this is tight on me. Note that I think I have a bottom, so if you don’t have as much of a bottom you should be fine. I think there was a lining, but no labels were attached at all. Probably wouldn’t wear this until I lose more weight This doesn’t have a label or tag.
This would probably suit size 55s a bit better. The length is alright though, but the back doesn’t look so good when worn (because of bottom -_-).
5 – Skirt
This is the most expensive skirt in this order and I think it’s about 27,000 Won or even more. I applied a coupon to make it cheaper though.
It’s made of wool and comes with a label but no tags. There’s a lining and you zip the skirt at the back. The seller included a sheet advertisement of their skirts and skirts, and I circled the one (only it’s a different colour) of which one I ordered. Worn it looks really lovely (it looks crap in the photo because it was folded and taken out of the package - please use your imagination ) - my only gripe is that it’s going to be warm to wear in summer – perhaps? I don’t know. Maybe not since it’s just a bottom. Length is great, quality is lovely. I ordered a size 66 and it fits perfectly. Definitely the best skirt in this order even though it was pricier.
6 – Harlem Pants
The photo looks really crap but it’s not that bad. I should stay away from harlem pants because they’ve been quite nightmarish on Gmarket so far. This time round I found another seller, and these were about 9,000Won so I expected them to be better quality. Turns out it’s a slightly stretchy polyester-esque fabric, which isn’t all too bad. But these are still a bit too short for me :\ I’m 165cm ish (5 foot 5) so if you’re taller than me, it’s definitely a no-no. But these aren’t bad, I’d wear them
7 – Pantyhose
I ordered 2 packs of nude and 2 packs of black pantyhose. Apparently these give your legs support and make your legs look nice, but I’m not sure on that I just wanted something cheap – so including the 2,500 Won shipping, all 4 together ended up being around 10,000Won or less. Super cheap hehehe.
8 - 2 pairs of dress pants
I ordered 2 different pairs of dress pants, both size 66, both with front pockets. The difference is mainly where the top waist bit is if you look carefully. Otherwise, the length, price and material is the same – straight leg cut, 50% rayon, 50% polyester and around 19,000Won a pair. Both don’t have labels or tags; they only have a small care tag, which was slightly disappointing. Also despite being the same size, the pair on the left with a fancier rim was a lot tighter on me than the pair on the right. Still, it’s ok and they’re pretty good pants.
9 – Dress and skirt
This seller has a lot of gorgeous dresses but with only 2 that had short sleeves and were just black. Slightly pricey at 23,000Won, but I applied a coupon. The stock pic was really cute and the dress is pretty nice when worn. Gripe is that there are loose threads and it’s actually shorter than expexted. Oh well, fits perfectly though and it’s made of some form of high quality cotton. The skirt fits perfectly but looks grey It was about 12, 000Won. Both are size 66. Both have labels but no tags.
10 - Etude House
Forget my resolutions for a bit - I ordered this to try it out and make life easier :p
I ordered a Blackhead off Oil Ex, Blackhead Gommage and something else [I think it'll become a present, hence the mystery]. The oil is out of the box because I found oil leaking from somewhere so the box was oily >_>. I think it’s from the bit between the cap and the plastic bottle >.< So beware of this. The seller gave me 2 samples (freebies, underlined in pink on the photo) - a cleansing foam (to be used with the oil I guess), and a body lotion, which is just what I needed since I’m too lazy to use moisturiser on my legs. I’ll add these to the list of reviews I am going to do
Conclusion
I’m fairly happy with the stuff I bought, but the general premise is to spend a bit more – you will get better products with better quality. Download the daily overseas coupons and you can save quite a bit altogether
I typed over half of this post using an on screen keyboard and tablet pen tapping my screen because I’ve run out of batteries for my keyboard. I’ve been meaning to go out and buy some for over a week now so err, until I get my keyboard working again, I won’t really be blogging LOL. Hope this review was useful, and see you next blog!
2010 was a year of more downs than ups. A lot of the time I was thinking to myself, “what do I really want to do in life?” and realised that there was a lot of stuff happening in my life and it didn’t make me happy. Yes, I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t happy with the quality of my life – all I did was study, rarely touched housework, barely saw my friends and felt awful for gaining weight. There are other things that made me unhappy as well, such as the idea of having to possibly work the rest of my life in an office for long hours and overtime possibly without pay.
I don’t mind working overtime – but when it’s possibly overnight I won’t be able to handle it. My health isn’t as good as it was 5 years ago for that matter – I used to be able to pull all nighters without feeling sleepy until much later. Nowadays I can barely stay awake. I’ve lost my passion because I didn’t know what I was trying to achieve. If anything, I think I was trying to achieve too much, and it wasn’t going to be long term – it was merely short term glory.
Thinking about life in a more practical light, I’d prefer to be clear on my working hours, working conditions and live life without having to worry about work.
You are only given one life, and have one chance to live the life – therefore live it comfortably and happily. Don’t put yourself through more stress than is needed just for a bit of extra money – money is important, but it’s not your life. You can live life comfortably just the same even if you earned a bit less.
It’s hard to get work no matter what qualifications you have, because there’s always that someone who will think that you’re not happy to work for less, or think “why should I hire someone with higher qualifications than I have?” – just keep going. So I decided to end 2010 on a high note, as I really am quite happy now. I’ve made a decision to not go into architecture, and I’ve worked towards that.
But let’s just detail through my 2010 – you don’t have to read everything, just read the bolded headings since they summarise everything. And of course, you don’t have to read this at all if you didn’t want to It’s just my way of looking back this past year and to see how much I’ve changed.
Got into the studio of my choice. YABBA DABBA DOO.
Which is briefly mentioned here. I felt that a lot of it had to do with pure luck, since I was lucky to get into my first choice, and as you probably all gathered from my posts, it was the best studio ever. It wasn’t the best because of the program (though a lot of it was great and I enjoyed it), it was the people in the studio – this was the first studio ever I had where everyone knew each other, talked to each other and stuck together even after class to go have dinner, eat lunch (during class) and go out to hand our assignments together and then later go out.
Of course, not everyone came every time and not everyone was superglue close, but everyone was just so awesome. My 2010 would have been really crap otherwise, so for getting into that studio, I’m very grateful.
Held the Minitokyo Knockout Competition 2010.
And to refresh your memory, the competition link is here.
I’m actually quite proud yet a bit sad about the competition because I think I could have done better. But overall I think everyone enjoyed it, learned a thing or two, had an excuse to make wallpapers – and biggest achievement was actually having wallers who have disappeared completely from the walling scene (or cyberspace for that matter) to come back and shine once more. I reunited lost friends and I inspired the AP Clash competition so I’m so stoked!
I think I’ve been demoted back to Retired Mod at Minitokyo lololol – but oh well. It’s alright. I hope that maybe I can do another comp in 2011 – perhaps that’d be another exciting thing to look forward to
Went clubbing for the first time in my life and timely had my room raided at home/ I was burgled.
Sigh. They took my laptop which contained some work I hadn’t backed up (it was work that I did on my laptop) – and even bothered to take away the adapter too. They took my beloved Sony Cybershot and even worse, my mum’s watch. That was the worst part of the burgle I suppose – she worked hard to buy that watch and these asses just took it. She has back problems and did a waitressing job for a while to save up for it I hope those guys end up sucking up crap!
Went interstate and visited Melbourne over the span of 4 days, nights.
For epicness, click here. Lala. It was my first ever adventure interstate (!). I’ve only ever been in NSW and the furthest I’ve been is probably just Canberra or the Blue Mountains. Possibly Snowy Mountains >_> but yeah, Melbourne is the furthest!
It was pretty cool, but I think people overhyped it for me – in my heart, I still prefer Sydney – we have a lot more stuff to buy, a better nightlife (I think), and our stuff surprisingly is cheaper – this goes for food and clothes at restaurants/ shops. Go Sydney!
Played on Steam for the very first time in my life. Bought my first ever computer game, that being Left4Dead2. I killed one special zombie, whatever that was, and got incapacitated more than once. All in the same game. Then I tried to play Alien Attack and failed miserably. Do not ask.
And for an epic recap where I got “helping” and “shooting” mixed up – I lagged, helped my friend up and then was like NAH *BAMBAMBAMBAMBAM* and killed him :\.
It was actually REALLY fun though even though I really sucked. I paid $30 for it and I’ve only played once… I think I need to play it more often to get more bang out of my buck…
All the wtf in that anime aside, the way they depicted the rush to complete their final projects is pretty accurate. You don’t do much for most of the year, but then you completely go all out on the final. You get barely any sleep and you actually do literally camp by your work (a lot of people at my uni brought sleeping bags and stayed overnight). How I even survived it with my eyeballs rolling around unable to focus and getting sleep every 24 hours is a miracle.
Finished study. But probably not for good.
I do have plans to go back and study, but that’s for consideration at another stage. Anyhow, I wouldn’t go back to uni, I’d probably go study at TAFE, but I shall wait and see. That’ll be something for me to think about much later – maybe in the next year or two.
Started exercise – it’s an on and off relationship, but I managed to still keep like 4kg off. I just need to keep going and finally hit my target 5kg. Actually went out almost every week at least once. I started to have a social life again.
I still haven’t started dance lessons (because of lack of income – which I’ll get to in a moment), but losing 4kg is pretty damn good since it’s just excess water. Never realised I was actually a size 8 – life can be strange.
I managed to go out almost every week which was amazing. I sacrificed my uni work for it, but it felt so much more satisfying knowing that I’m human again.
Won Gmarket Top blogger a grand total of 4? 5? times.
Yay. No seriously, YAY \o/ A lot of my shopping kinda relied on winning for these blog entries – I managed to expand my shoe collection but there were a lot of things I bought for no reason. Kinda regretting some of my purchases, but I just have to persevere and keep buying more. Then I’ll keep writing more. And spend more. Viscious cycle, but I need it.
Had my first ever telephone interview without knowing it was an interview. Did not do well, of course.
Which was brushed upon here. That was pretty damn sneaky if you ask me – usually they would reschedule it? I was so confused and I answered a lot of the questions pretty badly.
So please people, if you’re applying for jobs and haven’t really been preparing for an interview all that well and see an unknown number calling your mobile, don’t pick it up – or at least reschedule! Ring them back when you’re ready >_>
Completed all 50 levels in adventure mode in “Plants Vs. Zombies.”
First game I’ve ever finished from start to finish - and that’s saying something. Prior to this I kinda didn’t even know that games could be finished :\ Most of the games I’ve been playing were never ending I suppose and maybe that’s why…
But no, this was a bit accomplishment even though it sounds like I’m being stupid. I KILLED ZOMBIES. HOW AWESOME AM I?
Brb – feel like playing it
And for the grand finale: 31st December 2010 – Scored my first face to face interview knowing it was an interview. Did well, of course.
After a grand total of one month and 2 weeks, I’ve finally landed myself a job *pats self*.
“Finally” is probably a bad word to use because I know how long people have taken to find jobs. I on the other hand am just super paranoid – do you know how slow time goes by when you’re at home almost every day hoping that someone will call you to come to work? Being unemployed for less than 2 months is actually pretty damn fast and I don’t even know how I achieved it. I was dreading the possibility that I couldn’t get the job so I wasn’t too confident when I turned up – but things will change once I start working
I’m actually really lucky because I just happened to mysteriously hit the jackpot without actually realising that was the case. Apparently my CV happened to come at the right time and it caught their attention, so I got an interview really quickly. The boss is super friendly and I’ve got a lot of research and shopping to do – I have plenty to learn so I’m going to write a whole list of questions and stuff to avoid any slip ups – so if there are catchups and what not, they’d have to all slot in within the next two weeks, because after that I’ll be working quite regularly – I get weekends off so far though, as I’ll be in training
Very excited to start the job because it’s something I’m quite interested in, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. The work environment is also excellent so I’m internally squeeing. Fingers crossed I’ll get along with my work mates (all girls) so we’ll just have to wait and see
Of course, I’m not going to say where my workplace is, but let’s just say it ticks off all my boxes – newly renovated, in the city, great dress code, great products to sell. Can’t wait to see my friends and let them know – they’ll be surprised! \o/ Even I’m surprised myself – omgomgomg yay. >:3
So, that’s my 2010 in summary, noting all the ups and downs as well as new things I’ve tried.
I can’t find my post with the New Year’s Resolutions, but I think I’ve achieved most of them or nearly most of them (eg instead of losing 5kg I lost 4) except for saving up money (which I kinda did end up achieving somehow by luck).
I’ll be back tomorrow with my New Year’s Resolutions. Sorry for the influx of blog posts – but I think most of you will be out celebrating to notice, yes/yes?
Thanks to readers who subscribe, bookmark or read me on a regular basis. I’ll definitely have better blog posts next year so I can’t wait for it start! I can’t believe this year will be over in less than 9 hours
Until then, be safe, wear your seatbelts and beware of double demerit points!
